Our client in Richardson, Texas is seeking a Sales & Use Tax Senior Manager, to work in their Richardson office and will oversee two remote employees in addition to temporary employees.
Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting / Tax
- 5-7+ years of work experience in a Big Four or similar public accounting firm, or relevant industry experience, in sales and use tax.
- Familiarity with property tax, combined/unitary and multi-state tax issues is beneficial.
- Strong leadership abilities to lead & communicate with others.
- A demonstrated team player with flexibility and initiative.
- Strong MS Office skills including Word and Excel.
- Proficiency in tax software systems and tax research tools like OneSource and CCH is essential.
- CPA would be considered a plus.
- An accounting background would be a plus.

Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations by conducting detailed review of sales and use tax returns prepared by analyst.
- Evaluate company’s current compliance processes and provide customized and automated solutions to report sales & use tax obligations.
- Participate in assessing sales and use tax strategies and exposures. Develop planning activities.
- Conduct moderate to advanced tax research and analysis on state and local tax laws. This includes interpreting new tax law changes and their implications for SE entities.
- Analyze and approve tax entries created by return filings, accruals.
- Responsible for conducting true-up analyses and making necessary adjustments.
- Reconcile tax ledger account balances to each legal entity and jurisdiction.
- Maintain internal state and local tax resources and controls, including updating matrices on tax rate changes and methodologies.
Accounting Responsibilities:
- Oversee job cost accounting.
- Handle month-end accruals and prepare journal entries, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Approve and process financial transactions, including accruals and journal entries.
Tax Responsibilities:
- Utilize Avalara tax software for managing both sales tax and property tax.
- Responsible for approving tax returns processed by RSM for various company divisions.
- Conduct audits and respond to state inquiries.
- Provide support for accounting and tax-related questions.
- Assist with property tax processes, including prepaid accounting, expense tracking, and equipment amortization.
Software and Systems:
- Experience with SAP (GL accounting software) and Sage accounting software is preferred.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Support the implementation of new software systems.
Organizational Changes:
- Assist with mergers and acquisitions, including integration of acquired companies (e.g., HomeServe, Pink Plumber).
- Adapt to a dynamic and evolving business environment.
Required Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of property tax and prepaid accounting processes.
- Master’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
- Minimum of 7+ years in a management role, with a total of 10 years of experience in accounting.
- Consistent work history—at least 2 years in the last position is preferred.
- A “numbers person” with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
