Our client in Carrollton, Texas is seeking a Chief Electrical Estimator who will be responsible for overseeing the estimating department and managing the full estimation process for electrical systems and installations in construction projects. This includes analyzing project specifications and blueprints to define the scope of work, preparing detailed cost estimates that account for materials, labor, equipment, contingencies, and risk factors. The role involves close collaboration with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to gather accurate information on project requirements and pricing.

The Chief Electrical Estimator also prepares comprehensive bids, ensuring clarity in cost breakdowns and compliance with the owner’s requirements. A key responsibility is identifying cost-saving strategies through value engineering while maintaining quality, safety, and compliance standards. This senior-level position demands a deep understanding of electrical systems, cost control, budgeting, and proficiency with estimation software, along with strong communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the electrical estimating department for multiple projects, including new construction, renovations, and complex electrical installations.
  • Accurately calculate project costs, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead, for various electrical systems such as wiring, lighting, and power distribution.
  • Prepare detailed and comprehensive electrical estimates and proposals for client submission, ensuring all project scope elements are included.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to align estimates with project specifications and client expectations.
  • Provide cost-reduction recommendations and strategies to improve project efficiency without compromising safety or quality.
  • Engage directly with clients, suppliers, and vendors to clarify project requirements, negotiate pricing, and manage change orders as needed.
  • Identify potential risks in the estimation phase (e.g., scheduling conflicts, scope changes, or material availability) and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Mentor and guide junior estimators by reviewing their work, offering feedback, and sharing best practices to ensure high-quality and accurate estimates.
  • Stay informed on market trends, material costs, and labor rates to maintain competitiveness in bids.
  • Maintain organized records of estimates, proposals, and changes to support project tracking, audits, and future reference.

Position Requirements

  • Licenses: Possess a valid driver’s license and provide personal transportation. Professional licensure may also be required.
  • Education: High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent training.
  • Experience: A minimum of 8 years of estimating experience, including proficiency with estimation software.
  • Certifications: Relevant professional certifications, if required.

SKILLS:
Strong understanding of electrical systems, NEC (National Electrical Code), local codes, and industry standards.
Reading and drawing prints and schematics.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to review large amounts of technical data and make accurate assessments of project needs.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to solve complex problems, often under time constraints.
Read and interpret maps, instructional manuals, specifications, work site directions, blue prints and written instructions.
Supervise assigned employees to complete projects.
Working understanding of Microsoft Office Suite as well as estimating software.


PHYSICAL FUNCTION:
Must be able to lift or carry up to 25 pounds of equipment and documents.
Must be able to make transition from employee parking area or street into construction work areas and to gain access to all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction but acceptable for use.
Possess good vision (normal or corrected).
